April 6, 2003 National Tartan Day
Austin
Tartan Day will be held Sunday 6th April 12 noon in the Capitol Building
Rotunda. There will be a reading a proclamation from the Governor, short
speech
about Scots contribution to Texas ( including the building of the Capitol
itself!) Pipes and Highland Dancing. Bruce Marshall, president of Austin
Scots
will read the Declaration of Arbroath. All of the above will of course
be
accompanied by much evidence of " The Tartan".
Dallas
CELEBRATE National Tartan Day Sunday, April 6th 2 PM to 6 PM at Dreyfus
Club
House, 610 E. Lawther (Lake Highlands Blvd. & Buckner Blvd.), White
Rock Lake
featuring the Dallas Highland Dancers, Michael Harrison, Seamus Stout,
Donna
Fitch, Threadneedle St., and North Texas Caledonian Pipe Band. Presented
by The
Scottish Society of Dallas. The Scottish Society of Dallas is a non-profit

3C organization. Admission: Adults $5.00. Children - Free
San Antonio
Tartan Day in San Antonio, Texas will be on Friday, April 4th at the Alamo
at 6
p.m. This a big celebration which kicks off the San Antonio Highland Games
week-
end (Always the 1st week-end in April). At the Tartan Day celebration
we will
have 2 pipe bans, singer Carl Peterson, musical group Campbell and Wilson,
Highland Dancers Annette and Christine Venegas, and a color guard from
Ft. Sam
Houston. The ceremony includes laying of wreaths by both the Scottish
Society
of San Antonio and the San Antonio Highland Games Association to commemorate
Scottish Contribution to Texas history, and sprays of flowers from various
clans. We also do a proclamation from the mayor and a reading of a abbreviated
Declaration of Arbroath. The Highland Games are held in Helotes, Texas
Saturday
9 am to 6 pm Sunday 10 am to 6 pm.
